In the coming week we will be completing a few tasks for assessment in class.  Please as your child about:


Math - Students need to know how to represent, order and compare place value up to 1 000 000 and down to 0.001 (millions to thousandths) in standard form, expanded form, written words and verbally.


Writing - Students will be creating a Life Map which has various symbols and images in conjunction with a multi-paragraph writing piece. We will work on organizing paragraphs with topic and conclusion sentences, interesting vocabulary and description, appropriate transition words, and proper conventions (capitalization, punctuation, spelling).  Brainstorm together on important events in your lives.


Highlights from Today!


We worked on a teamwork math activity with our buddies!








For Field Study Friday, we continued to look for signs of fall.  Students did an excellent job "zooming in" and paying attention to detail in nature.


















We finished painting our map of Canada!




For tech Fridays we had our first lesson of grade 5 on coding.  Students animated the letters in their names on Scratch.

 Friday, August 30 We had an awesome first week of school, the time went by fast!  Some highlights from the past two days were: Time capsules: We have been writing a letter to our future selves to read at the end of grade 5 and grade 12.  Students have been including details about their summer, their interests and goals for this year. Shipwrecked: To build leadership and resiliency, we played a game called Shipwrecked.  Students in 5D worked as a team to cross from one side of the soccer field to the other by only standing on 10 sit upons.  The students moved almost halfway across the field without touching the grass!  It was amazing to hear all of the words of encouragement and strategy. Math and Literacy: We eased back into learning by playing math and literacy games.
