Week of November 28 Diwali and Halloween
We had a busy week at school learning about Diwali and Halloween. We made and designed a diya as a class and lit it for Diwali.
Each person in the school contributed to the NLS rangoli. Each 5D student sprinkled purple sand in the sky to create part of the Northern Lights.
For Halloween, students did 4 quick sketches of pumpkins. They traded drawings with a partner to see if they could identify which of the 25 pumpkins the student drew. Details such as scars on the pumpkins and the stems were clues to help identify which pumpkin was which.
Students did a design challenge creating a box for their pumpkin. Students measured the equatorial and polar circumference to help determine the best size for the box. After students were challenged to find the volume of the box by multiplying the width, height and length together.
Finally we cut the pumpkins open and counted the seeds.
Ms. Mundy took the pumpkins to the Alice Sanctuary and the animals loved them!
