This week we learned about Lunar New Year. We all designed a dragon scale and Mrs. Qi's class put together a dragon. We also explored how different countries celebrated Lunar New Year around the world.

In The RESTART program we talked about conflict resolution.  We did an activity that focused on team building and communication.  Please see the letter at the bottom of the blog for more information.

In math, we continued practicing division with three-digit numbers and one divisor, as well as 2-by-2 multiplication.  We will have a show what you know in the near future.

In Language Arts, we continued to design our own "Perfect Pet" based off the book, The Barnabus Project.  We practiced starting our stories in an engaging way.

In Science we acted out the reason for the seasons.  We also learned the phases of the moon.  Students created a collaborative art piece to explain the different cycles we experience.

In PE, this was our last week for basketball.  Students really focused on getting open for passes, and ensuring they worked as a team.

The week ended in a challenging game of balancing Wax Museum.

in RESTART, our focus was on Resolving Conflict. The group talked about the common misunderstandings and types of conflicts that happen with their families and friends. As a class we discussed was how important verbal and non-verbal communication is and emphasized that most of our communication is non-verbal such as eye contact, body language, and posture.

Communication styles can lead to conflict as well as conflict resolution. Communication styles are : aggressive, passive, passive-aggressive and assertive. Being Assertive can help with resolving conflict. A useful strategy is an “I statement”. When we use an I-statement we are letting those around us know how we feel, why we are feeling that way and what it is you need without blaming, pointing fingers and accusing others!

We highlighted the importance of listening and understanding the perspectives of others and how this can help resolve conflicts and misunderstandings. The class was able to connect the concept of assertiveness and its benefits in conflict resolution.
