Today Restart came and talked to us about Social Media and how to stay safe online.  They shared the importance of respecting the age limit of 13 when using social media platforms.  They reminded us to never share personal information online and know that people may not be who they say they are online.  We played a Kahoot Game to check our understanding.  Please see the letter at the bottom to read more about Restart.

To share our understanding about the different cycles we observe in our solar system, students experimented with stop motion animation.  Students should be able to explain the phases of the moon, the reasons for the seasons, solar and lunar eclipses and will have an upcoming show what you know.

Today in RESTART we discussed Media Awareness. We emphasized the importance of being aware of how media can impact our decisions, behaviours, and emotions. We asked youth to identify different types of media including books, music, newspapers, and social media. As a group we stressed the importance of setting boundaries regarding how much time is spent on social media and video games. Some tips on setting effective boundaries regarding time online included, monitoring screen time, and scheduling time to connect with family and friends.

We focused on the ability to identify different social media platforms and asked the youth to share what platforms they may use. This prompted a discussion regarding the importance of staying safe online. Safety tips were provided to the students included, having a private account, only adding people that you have met in person, and not sharing personal information. We also talked about the impacts of cyber bullying as well as the law and regulations related to bullying and cyber bullying. Student’s were also informed of their responsibilities regarding reporting bullying to trusted adults.
