This week students started on their Indigenous Star Story projects.  We studied the Dog Star Story according to the Woodland Cree people and identified the main events.  Students will be working towards choosing their own story and representing it with 5 painted stones to help guide their tale.  Students were asked to look for 5 stones in their outdoor adventures this week.

Students presented their TUSC projects.  Confidence and oral presentation skills have noticeably improved.  Well done!

Please see the letter from the Restart Porgram to read what we did this week.

This week in RESTART, we discussed Decision-Making and Risk Taking. The students were introduced to the decision-making model, PAUSE, CLARIFY, CONSIDER, CHOOSE. This model supports youth in making the best decision for themselves and challenges them to think about potential positive or negative consequences before making a decision.

During our conversation about risk-taking, youth identified their values and how they can impact decisions and risks we take. We also discussed factors that influence their decisions and the likelihood of them partaking in high-risk behaviors. We highlighted the idea that our values act as protective factors against engaging in high-risk behaviours. We specified the difference between a risk and a high-risk and explained that taking risks is beneficial to our development. The group discussed what risky behavior looks like and how our values and beliefs play a part in if we do or do not partake in such behavior. Also, in conversation, we talked in depth about how their beliefs and values tie into their behaviors or in other words, how their present actions fit in with their values and beliefs.

Ask your child about the two activities that we completed.

Students worked with a partner to identify the main events in the Legend of the Great Fisher according to the Ojibwe.

We got to play mini games employing our newly learned hockey skills.

For Field Study Friday, we cleaned up our school yard!  We found a wide variety of interesting items.
