TUSC + Community Walk on Thursday + Upcoming Events

Hi Grade 5 Families,

Tomorrow is TUSC!  Students have prepared a one minute speech to share in front of the class.  The purpose of TUSC is to practice presentation skills.  Some students may be doing last minute touches tonight at home.  Students need to remember that it should not be longer than 2 minutes.  Practice in front of a family member tonight!

We wanted to let you know that we plan to take a walk to a small green space that is just northeast of the school which overlooks the train tracks and faces Deerfoot Trail. As long as the weather permits, we will go Thursday afternoon after lunch and return close to recess time (approximately 1-2:20 p.m.)



The purpose of this walk to get a referent for a kilometer (real-life measurement for math), as well as clean up some of the pathways along the way to help clean up the community (we have gloves, bags and clippers).

 Friday, August 30 We had an awesome first week of school, the time went by fast!  Some highlights from the past two days were: Time capsules: We have been writing a letter to our future selves to read at the end of grade 5 and grade 12.  Students have been including details about their summer, their interests and goals for this year. Shipwrecked: To build leadership and resiliency, we played a game called Shipwrecked.  Students in 5D worked as a team to cross from one side of the soccer field to the other by only standing on 10 sit upons.  The students moved almost halfway across the field without touching the grass!  It was amazing to hear all of the words of encouragement and strategy. Math and Literacy: We eased back into learning by playing math and literacy games.
